The character rename and change in appearance is actually a good thing :)
It means that someone logged in from another account and:
1. The server didn't crash - which it did a few days back :)
2. The server manged to store the new player's data correctly,
3. And you've received a new entity's data as your own, which while not that nice, means we might be able to play as doors, or cars :P

First off, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TAKING YOUR TIME AND USING YOUR RESOURCES TO GET THIS DONE ....

That said.. I need additional help getting this done.

I have downloaded the SegsExecuter.zip which contains the RegistryWriter.exe file. I also downloaded the CoX-Setup.exe file through torrent (will seed FOREVER).

I ran the CoX-Setup ... ran the RegistryWriter... verified that HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Cryptic / SEGS / Auth exists ... the IP address attached to the Auth string is 127.0.0.1

I then made a shortcut of the CoX.exe file located in C:\Program Files(X86)\CoX, sent that shortcut to the desktop and edited properties to show "C:\Program Files (x86)\CoX\CoX.exe" -project SEGS

After that, I run the shortcut and am taken to the Login screen for CoX ... I then enter my username and password and I am given a message saying The log in server is unavailable, please check the CoH website.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Kalakas

Edit:
Changed IP to 77.46.18.50, able to login, create character, get into Outbreak... graphics are a bit off though.... TYVM!

Alright, first off; Thank you so much for being so wonderful and doing everything that you are to help us get the game we love back :D

That being said I am going to bug you with some questions

A little info as to what I have going on

So I have gotten a new computer since the closure of CoX, so I no longer have my "City of heroes parent folder". I did download the "CoHBeta" that is used for the Icon Character Creator (link; http://www.savecoh.com/p/download-issue-24-beta.html). This created what looks like the Cityofheroes.exe So I assumed everything would work peachy, but after following the guide and using the helper app and verifying to make sure it worked: I get the ""unknown auth protocol 254" when attempting to log in.

As I am typing this I tried to log on again and recieved this error when clicking my shortcut "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000043). Click OK to close the application."

Now time for the questions:
Will the CoHBeta work?
If not is there a link to download the proper files?
and Did I bork it beyond repair?

Thank you again, even if you do not personally answer my question. Just thank you for doing this, it means so much to us all

Hey there! First of, thank you for all the effort that's been put into this. You people are amazing, and if I had any programming skill, I'd have been in there with you trying to make this a reality.

To the problem...

I've installed and gone through the shortcut and registry steps, even killed it and re-installed. I can log in, but after I pick the server it gives me 'CantConnectDBServer'. Any clues as to what I should be doing?

Keep trying to log in. This happened to me at first and after 3 or 4 tries it 'took'. It seems to get better after that initial connect, but patience is required either way it is still very buggy.

Sorry! lol... force of habit, I've been a programmer so long that some words are ingrained. Wish I had experience to help other than deflecting some questions for you.

No worries, it's as un-buggy as i could make it and still work on all other things :)

And enjoy your provisionary rank :)
